Mr. Honsberger combines the practice of law, which is focused on bankruptcy and insolvency law, with writing in different areas of law, including its history and the legal profession. He was the founding and only editor of the Law Society of Upper Canada Gazette. In 1985 he was a first recipient of the Law Society of Upper Canada medal for outstanding service within the profession, and in 1998, was awarded the Mundell Medal by the Attorney General of Ontario for his contribution to legal literature. In 1999, the Law Society of Upper Canada named its archives reading room as the John Honsberger Reading Room. In 2000, he was the recipient of Award of Distinction from Toronto Lawyers Association. John Honsberger was one of the original directors of the Osgoode Society.
